Meet Sergeant Pepper!

“Sarge” is one half of a pair abandoned in Troy. He was picked up by animal control and got to hang out in the police station for a few days to see if anybody claimed him but as with many strays lately, no one claimed him. He had no place to go and no shelter available so advocates in the city started making phone calls. For the first time in what must be a long time, this guy got lucky because one of the officers that called happened to reach us at a time we had an opening.

So what have we learned about Sarge since then? Glad you asked, we would love to tell you! Sarge loaded his little butt up and rode like a champ to his foster home. He behaved like a perfect gentleman while his foster mom scrubbed the filth off of his skin. Unfortunately, his skin condition was nothing to brag about but with a few days of good food and a clean environment he is shinny and beautiful and his hair is starting to come back. This guy has gone a long time in his life peeing wherever he is when nature calls so we are working hard at learning appropriate urination locations (such as not in the house). He is was just neutered which will also help with his potty training.

He is extremely food motivated and highly eager to learn – mastering a few commands and manners in the time he has been with us.

Sarge is crate trained and rides very nicely in the car and walks well on a leash. He is extremely strong and will use his face to bulldoze into you (typical of a bully), so for that reason, small kids may not be the best fit.

Sarge seems to know he was given a second chance and he is very happy to make the best of it! It is important to note that he is an American Bully (very different than a pit bull) so we encourage applicants to research the breed.
