Meet Nova!
Nova sez, ” Y’know, I’ve been an awfully good girl for all my life. And somehow, my lucky star just hasn’t come along yet. Bounced around to a couple of homes now, both wanted me but weren’t really in a position to have a dog. At least they had the good sense and kindness to let me go.
Now, I live in foster care with 6 other dogs: a male Westie, a female Heeler mix, a male Collie mix, a male Podengo and two male German Shepherds. One of the shepherds doesn’t like me, and to be honest, I think he’s a jerk. Always trying to take my stuff and mount me. I don’t go for that….. so sue me! Our foster family keeps me separate from that one guy so we don’t mix it up. I’m a lover, not a fighter. But I’m not gonna let some big, hairy oaf take advantage of me, either.
Across the fence, there are a few little dogs who like to bark at us when we’re out in the yard. Some of the other dogs like to bark and lunge at them. But I don’t allow that kind of stuff. I think little ones need someone to intervene and keep them safe. So I push away those big barking dogs and break up the bedlam before it can get started.
I’m telling you this because I want you to know that you don’t have to be afraid of me. I know what I am and I know what I look like. And I know that some people might fear my type. But I’m not mean. I adore people and human touch. I endure living with other dogs while I have to and I’ll even play nicely with a friendly dog. But it’s people I need and crave. It’s the human touch I wish for.
Do you know what my dream is? I dream of having a real home of my own with someone who can give me a secure forever. I’ll lie next to you on the couch and snore while you watch TV; I’ll patrol the kitchen floor while you’re cooking, cleaning up your spills so you don’t have to do it. I’ll ride shotgun in the car and admire your driving skills; and I’ll greet your guests with a full-body wiggle and give them the happy-tail salute when they come to visit.
And, BTW, if we’re out in the yard, I might do some zoomies around you, but don’t worry about me running away. There is only one place I want to be and that’s with YOU,
