Meet Wally!

Wally is a goofy, sweet, happy almost-one-year-old pittie mix who’s ready to find his forever family! Weighing in at a lean 60 lbs., Wally might surprise you with his long legs that suggest he may have more growing to do. Wally is the perfect mix of playful and rambunctious puppy who gives the absolute best snuggles. He is eager to please and is game to do whatever his mom or dad is up to that day. Lazy day on the couch? Perfect. Ride along for errands? Count him in! Fun hike in the woods? Absolutely!

If you’ve been following Wally’s story, you may already know that he had a rough start to life. He came to OOTP with multiple fractures to his pelvis and right femoral head. We were relieved to learn that the hip could be surgically repaired through a femoral head osteotomy. Unfortunately, because so much of his muscle mass had wasted away, his recovery was slow. Wally has a few more weeks of physical therapy at Upstate Veterinary Hospital, where he is a star patient. He would love to show his future parent(s) some simple at-home exercises that will continue to strengthen his hip joint! Wally does have a slight limp that worsens after intense physical activity, and that may or may not go away as he continues to get stronger. He needs a family who will continue giving him some inexpensive daily supplements to protect his joints and parents who will keep an eye on his gait and remind him to take a break now and then. Wally does not seem to know he’s any different from any other pup — he runs, jumps, and plays happily.

Wally is fully crate-trained, housebroken, and neutered. He knows a few commands and tricks like “here,” “sit,” “down,” “spin,” and he’s pretty good at “stay.” He adores his feline foster sister. He also loves other dogs of all shapes and sizes, but finding the right canine sister who will put up with his puppy antics would be important. With his playful energy, Wally would not be a good fit for a home with small children.
