Meet Hattie, a 2-year-old, 40-pound “just the right size” kind of girl (not too big, not too small…basically the Goldilocks of dogs). According to her foster mom, Hattie is one of the best dogs she’s ever fostered, and that’s saying something, because she’s fostered a lot of dogs.

Hattie is the definition of a people dog. Once she decides you’re hers, that’s it – you’ve got a loyal little shadow who just genuinely enjoys being near you. Not in a clingy, nervous way…more like “you’re my favorite, I could hang out with you all day!”

She is super social and would love a dog sibling to wrestle and play with, but she’s also perfectly happy soaking up attention from her humans. Cats? Totally fine. Kids? She lives with them and takes it all in stride like a pro. She is the kind of dog who just rolls with life.

Hattie is incredibly sweet and goofy. She loves treats and training is a work in progress. She mastered the command “Sit”… eventually. But she’s eager and motivated, which is half the battle. She walks nicely on a leash with her harness, and even the kids can handle her on walks. She rides well in the car… with a seatbelt. Otherwise, she thinks she’s the official backseat event coordinator and might try to manage things a little too enthusiastically. She recently hopped in the car with a dog friend and, within minutes, was off on a swimming adventure like she’d planned the whole outing herself. So if some of your adventures focus around water, she is all in. Hattie also has incredible recall, and while we never encourage off leash play, it is nice to have a dog that will actually listen and come when called.

Hattie is crate trained and does well when left out, though if she gets bored, she may occasionally redecorate a shoe or two. Of course this will just get better as she matures. Hattie is currently perfecting her house training skills. She’s got the “tell you I need to go” part mostly figured out, she just needs a human who’s paying attention and can catch her cues.

At adoption events, Hattie can come across as a bit scattered—not because she’s anything but wonderful, but because there are SO many exciting things happening and she doesn’t want to miss any of them. It’s a lot to take in! Once she’s in a home environment, her sweet, affectionate personality really shines.

If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate, slightly goofy, go-with-the-flow companion who’s always ready for the next adventure (especially if it involves water or doggy play dates), Hattie might just be your girl.
