The Story of Bricks:  Bricks was purchased as a puppy by a family with two daughters, ages 8 and 2. He lived with this family for 18 months. Due to limited resources and a divorce the family could no longer keep the dog. To save Bricks from being surrendered, in May 2023, Amelia agreed to foster him. Under her care, Bricks received medical treatment for a skin rash, was neutered, was brought up to date on all vaccines, received extensive obedience training, socialization with people and dogs, and lots of love. Bricks is a confident, well-trained, beautiful, healthy, happy, loving, and energetic Pit Bull.

Bricks loves to meet new people. He is a great restaurant/cafe companion, sitting calmly during a meal. He is a great car passenger, open to new experiences and seeing new places. The favorite games are fetch and tug of war, but Bricks also is a great hiking buddy with both humans and other dogs. Bricks is an energetic dog who needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. He’s best suited for a physically active owner who wants canine company throughout the day. Weighing a solid 80 lbs, he’s a strong dog, requiring an owner with experience handling large breeds, preferably experience with Pit Bulls. Sweet, affectionate, and playful Bricks ready to share days of loyal companionship, fun activities, snuggles, and love with his forever family.

The following is a Training breakdown from The Art of Dogs board and train program Bricks attended.

“We did a long-term training program at the end of 2023 with Amelia’s foster dog, Bricks, which allowed him to gain a lot of new skills! Bricks was in a Board & Train program with us from mid-September until late December of 2023. The items covered in Bricks’ Board & Train program were:
· Loose Leash Walking
· Sit on verbal cue, with stay
· Down on verbal cue, with stay
· Recall (coming when called to “Bricks, come!)
· Place Bed (go to your cot, lay down, and stay there for up to one hour with distractions)
· Generalized Impulse Control : Bricks is a mentally and physically strong dog, so we worked a lot on having him wait at doors, sidewalks for traffic to go by, not going after a toy just because it’s on the ground in front of him, ignoring other dogs on walks, ignoring food that’s around him but not being offered directly to him, and biggest of all—not jumping on people. He had a big habit of wanting to jump on people when excited, and this was among the more critical pieces that we wanted to ensure his adoptive home follows through with. When he jumps, we do not push him off with our hands, but instead tell him “off” and his feet should all four go back to the ground. Bricks then boarded with a trainer friend of ours for several weeks since graduating our Board & Train program when his foster mom had a busy work schedule, where his training was continued to be held in place.”
